I’m on a mission to help you embrace HOLMANFIT’s Golden Rule for Fitness & Health: eat healthy food in the right amount, exercise regularly, cardiovascular fitness, strength training, don’t smoke, and get a good night’s sleep. Through my books, writing, and audio messages, I aim to explain what you need to do to live a longer, healthier life—and, most importantly, why—all based on science, not fads.

Let me tell you a little about myself. While I don’t hold advanced degrees in exercise science or nutrition, I bring a lifetime of learning and doing, supplemented by formal certifications in fitness. After retiring from law, I became a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Although I no longer maintain these certifications, the experience deepened my knowledge and strengthened my commitment to helping others achieve their fitness goals.

My fitness journey began in 1968 when I read Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s groundbreaking book Aerobics. Inspired by his message, I started cardiovascular exercise—and that decision shaped my life. Fitness has been a cornerstone of my existence ever since.

I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1964 with distinction and served as a naval aviator, flying carrier-based S2E anti-submarine aircraft. After leaving the Navy in 1969, I pursued a career in law, earning my law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1971, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I practiced law for 36 years in Columbus, Ohio, balancing a demanding legal career with a steadfast commitment to daily exercise. At one point, I ran five miles a day—rain, snow, or shine—for over 400 consecutive days.

In 2011, I co-wrote Take Command: Be Lean, Energized, and Strong with my son Rex. Together, we shared practical, science-based advice to help readers transform their health. That experience reinforced my passion for motivating others to lead healthier lives.
